The village of Sturminster Marshall on the banks of the River Stour is the ideal base for a rural holiday yet within easy driving distance of some of England’s finest beaches. The village boasts three popular pubs, a restaurant, golf course, post office and parish church. At the end of the village on the banks of the river stands White Mill a former mill now owned by the National Trust and open in the summer months at weekends. To get to the mill you have to cross the medieval arched White Mill Bridge, the oldest bridge in Dorset. You can sit here and picnic on the riverbank in one of the most picturesque corners of Dorset.

Two miles away is the ‘iron age’ fort at Badbury Rings giving panoramic views of the Dorset countryside and nearby is the National Trust property, Kingston Lacy House and Gardens.

Wimborne a ten minute drive away is a beautiful historic market town, winner of the Southern England in Bloom Award has excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. Wimborne’s weekend markets are renowned along the south coast. Situated under cover hundreds of stalls selling antiques, bric-a-brac and collectables are adjacent to a large outdoor market selling more traditional fayre including clothing, fruit and vegetables and plants. Wimborne’s recently restored art-deco Tivoli Theatre shows a wide range of live productions including musicals, plays, ballet and rock as well as showing latest film releases.
